1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly and information generated when you use Rentoverse:
- Account information: name, email address, and authentication credentials when you sign up with email/password or Google OAuth.
- Listing data: property type, rent, locality, address, photos, amenities, furnishing details, and contact preferences you enter when posting a pin on the rent map.
- Location data: approximate city/locality you search or browse, and optionally your precise GPS position if you enable location access on the map page.
- Usage data: pages visited, search queries, filters applied, listings viewed, ratings given, and comments posted. This is collected through standard server logs and first-party analytics.
- AI interaction data: messages you send to the AI rent assistant on the map. These are processed to generate responses and are not permanently stored beyond your active session.
- Device and network data: IP address, browser type, operating system, and device identifiers — collected automatically to operate the service securely.
We do not collect Aadhaar numbers, PAN numbers, bank account details, or any government-issued ID.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate and improve the Rentoverse platform, including the rent map, listing search, and AI features.
- Connect renters with landlords and flatmates through the community-contributed rent map.
- Power AI-driven features including natural language search, rent prediction, area insights, and listing description generation — using aggregated and anonymised data wherever possible.
- Detect and prevent fraudulent listings, spam, and broker clickbait using automated content moderation.
- Send transactional emails such as account verification, password reset, and listing enquiry notifications.
- Analyse usage patterns in aggregate to improve search relevance, map performance, and feature prioritisation.
- Comply with applicable Indian laws, including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and its Rules.
We do not use your data to serve third-party targeted advertising. Rentoverse has no advertising business model.
3. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited information in the following circumstances:
- Service providers: We use third-party services such as MongoDB Atlas (database hosting), Cloudinary or similar (image storage), and OpenAI (AI features). These providers process data only on our behalf under data processing agreements and are prohibited from using it for their own purposes.
- Public listing data: Property information you post on the rent map (locality, rent, type, amenities, description) is publicly visible to all users. Do not include personal contact information in public listing fields unless you intend for it to be visible.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or a competent government authority in India.
- Business transfers: If Rentoverse is acquired or merged with another entity, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email and prominently on the platform before this occurs.
5. Data Retention
- Account data: Retained for the duration of your account. If you delete your account, your personal information (name, email) is removed within 30 days.
- Listing data: Pins you post are retained until you delete them. Deleted pins are removed from public view immediately and purged from our databases within 30 days.
- Comments and ratings: Retained to maintain community integrity. You may request deletion by contacting us.
- Server logs: IP addresses and request logs are retained for up to 90 days for security and abuse prevention.
6. Your Rights
As a user of Rentoverse, you have the following rights regarding your personal data under applicable Indian law and our own policies:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: Update inaccurate or incomplete account information at any time from your profile settings.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated personal data.
- Export: Request an export of your listings, ratings, and comments in a machine-readable format.
- Withdrawal of consent: Withdraw consent for location access or AI processing at any time by adjusting browser permissions or account settings.

7. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including:
- TLS encryption for all data in transit.
- Hashed and salted password storage.
- HttpOnly, Secure authentication cookies to prevent XSS token theft.
- Server-side input validation and parameterised database queries to prevent injection attacks.
- Rate limiting on authentication and submission endpoints to prevent brute-force and spam.
